Cheshire Magazine Photoshoot: Rick Parfitt Jnr at the Cholmondeley Pageant of Power
Rick Parfitt Jnr, an accomplished race driver and rock musician, was a headlining feature at this year’s Cholmondeley Pageant of Power. The yearly event, hosted over three days in the scenic Cheshire parish of Cholmondeley, is filled to the brim with displays of power, both petrol driven kind and power-chord driven kind. Throughout the event there were displays of various high-spec race cars, motorbike and flight displays, powerful rock concerts, and races throughout the event. All of which was seen by the 65,000-plus visitors who populated the pageant throughout the course of the event’s three day run time. The pageant’s setting was perfect for a striking photoshoot with Rick which was commissioned by the Cheshire Magazine.
For the shoot we photographed Rick in and around Cholmondeley Castle to create a variety of settings and styles to the pictures. We wanted to bring out both aspects of Ricks interests and passions in the photographs. The variety of backgrounds on offer helped us to achieve that aim, with the classical settings highlighting Rick’s herd-edged style.
The contrast of the classical backgrounds against Rick in his contemporary outfit creates a great opportunity to show of Rick’s personality and artistic sensibilities. The striking interiors and grandfather clock helped to create some fantastic close portrait photographs with an added warmth and intimacy.
Outside Cholmondeley Castle with the Ginetta G55
Moving to outside the Castle gave Rick the opportunity to pose against one of his race cars, a high-end Ginetta G55 which is Ginetta’s most powerful car to date. As a Factory Team LNT Ginetta Driver, as well as British GT4 Champion 2014 and Mobil 1 Master of the Year 2014, Rick has driven to acclaim and in this shoot we were able to take both close and wide shots of Rick posing with the high-spec machine.
Again, the contrast between the old castle features and the sleek, modern, and powerful race car helped create some dynamic photograph opportunities. There was plenty of opportunities for Rick to adopt a variety of poses and display his natural comfort and presence with the car with poses both on top of, and exiting, the impressive machine.
Taking the car further out into the castle grounds created the chance to take some pictures with a different feel and tone to them. The colours of the images with a brighter palate, a more open feeling, and with a greater scope to the pictures really shone. With Rick, the Ginetta race car, and Cholmondeley Castle all feature in a single image afforded the change to display both the power and personality of Rick and his settings.
As the sky lightened and the weather cleared, the shoot took on a crisp, clear element and really brought out the contrasting orange and blacks or Rick and the Ginetta car and even required Rick to break out his sunglasses for the last few shots of the day.
For the Cholmondeley Pageant of Power, Rick energetically headlined on the Firday night with session musicians who have worked with the likes of Robbie Williams and Lionel Richie. With RPJ Band, Rick creates crowd-pleasing event music which fills the atmosphere with foot stomping rock and indie tracks, impressing his distinct style onto the rustic environments of rural Cholmondeley.
